Gerard Bouwhuis

Pianist at Amsterdam's hotspot for musical discovery

Gerard discovered the piano at a very young age. He is professor at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague and organizes the annual Schellingwouder Festival.

He runs the NAPZAK series with his partner and Splendor collegue Heleen Hulst. The series features the flexible instrumentation of their ensemble Nieuw Amsterdams Peil performing repertoire from all historic periods and all parts of the world.

'The best thing about Splendor is that, somehow or other, you wind up thinking differently about your profession. For me, I like to go against the grain: playing music that's a bit less accessible. In Splendor, you always do your best, but you can also push the limits.'
