Ell Sol ("he alone") is Joan Mena, a musician, performer and composer from Barcelona. His last album Nou Principi ('new beginning') was released two years ago but seems increasingly relevant these days. Together with Miriam den Boer, Maya Felixbrodt and Pau Sola, his music has been expanded into an acoustic chamber music ensemble, but that does not yet describe the experience: What you see is a singer-songwriter with strings, what you hear is something between turbo folk and experimental musicians, compelling and theatrical. Catalan chanson, contemporary classical music, African rhythms and improvisation give the texts in this special language a new experience.
