Van Salon tot Cabaret

In the programme “from Salon to Cabaret” mezzo soprano Natali Boghossian and pianist Hans van Beelen will perform several highlights, as well as some lesser-known gems, from both of these theatrical and musical genres.
The recital will begin with songs and piano solo music originated in the salon of the famous singer Pauline Viardot, who was very influential in Paris’s 19th century artistic environment, as well as far beyond. Writer George Sand, composers Berlioz, Rossini, Clara Schumann, and Chopin, among others, all belonged to her inner circle. This year, 2021, is the 200th anniversary of Pauline Viardot’s birth.
The programme will continue with literary cabaret-style songs by Arnold Schönberg, Kurt Weill, and Benjamin Britten. Various forms of humour, as well as social reflections on the time and place of each composer’s era, will be highlighted.
