Flute & piano masterworks from the 2nd World War with literary contextualisation - part 2: RUSSIA

For millennia, composers have used the flute as a musical symbol of purity, innocence, tranquility and peace. So perhaps it is no coincidence that so many flute/piano masterpieces were written in the horrendous years of the Second World War; consciously or subconciously the composers were perhaps looking for a musical peace ....

Over the coming five years, Splendor musician, Emily Beynon (solo flute, Concertgebouworkest), together with British pianist Andrew West and guest speakers, will present five concerts with the WW2 flute/piano masterpieces to commemorate the Second World War, lest we forget the horrors and atrocities... and to raise some funds and awareness for Musicians without Borders.

Sergei Prokofiev: Sonata Op. 94 (1942/43)

Mieczyslaw Weinberg: 12 Miniatures Op.29 (1945)

Emily Beynon - flute,

Andrew West - piano,

Nina Targan Mouravi - texst

Project Paloma: Part TWO - Russia
