Body Mapping for Musicians

What Every Musician Needs to Know About the Body

A six hour course to improving freedom of movement for musicians

As a musician, are you looking for more freedom in your playing, or would you like to become more aware of habits that are limiting your playing? Perhaps you feel limited in your movements or have pain while practising and performing, or maybe you're recovering from an injury and are looking for ways to enjoy playing freely again. Body Mapping can perhaps help you achieve this.

Body Mapping is an educational tool which involves the conscious correcting and refining of the body map in order to produce flexible, efficient and elegant movement in music making. Musicians move for a living, and Body Mapping provides an anatomical context for musical performance, based on a secure somatic foundation.

The six hour course "What Every Musician Needs to Know About the Body" covers the training of movement, senses and attention, the places of balance, the arm structure, the movement of breathing, and the legs. The final hour applies all that has been learned in a practical masterclass setting.
