Brandt: 'It’s a great privilege, as a musician, to play in different formations week after week. Colleagues become acquaintances, acquaintances become friends — and before you know it, your closest friends, or even partners.

I have been performing with harpist Astrid Haring since 2008. Together we played, among other places, at KHL and De Balie, at a time when Splendor was still just a dream — a dream we were already trying to share with others. Soprano Caroline Cartens and Astrid have performed countless duo concerts, exploring some of the most beautiful repertoire from song and opera. This led to a series of trio concerts, including performances during the Kunstmaand Ameland.

I know flutist Janneke Groesz from the Netherlands Wind Ensemble. This past March, Astrid, Janneke and I travelled with the ensemble to Kamayurá, deep in the Brazilian Amazon, for a research project. There, we learned from local musicians about their music, their remarkable instruments, and how they experience music as something almost alive — an entity that speaks to you.

All these encounters and shared adventures have created a deep personal and musical bond.

For my members’ concert, I will bring these three wonderful musicians together. We will perform music from around the world — from moving arias to virtuosic South American choros.'

Splendor can only be the independent and free hub that it is, thanks to the members who support us. We pay them back with our specialty: music. Every year, all Splendor musicians play one concert that's free for this crucial group to whom Splendor owes its everyday existence.
