Floris Kappeyne Solo & Prophet Trio

'Half of What I Say is Meaningless' CD presentation

Splendor musician and jazz violist Oene van Geel can easily point out the icons of the newest generation's creative jazz musicians. Today he invites the upcoming pianist Floris Kappeyne for the presentation of his debut album 'Half of What I Say is Meaningless'. With his background in jazz and classical piano, and his special interest to combine the American jazz and the European classical world, Floris leads several projects such as the Floris Kappeyne Trio and Echo, and plays as a sideman in bands such as the Tijs Klaassen Quintet. He received a commission for a new composition by the 'Dutch Jazz Week', which will be performed in the BIMhuis in April.

After a turbulent second lockdown, Floris decided to go on a pilgrimage from Amsterdam to a recording studio in Osnabrück. The journey on foot inspired him to create this fully improvised solo album:

“Dear listener, I hope this message finds you in a good place. During the months of last winter, I descended into a darker state like many people around me. It felt like I had been confronted with the very real toll that the pandemic is taking on the mental health of many. I decided to set out on a journey on foot from my home in Amsterdam to a recording studio near the border with Germany to record an album of fully improvised music to reflect on this moment in my life. I recommend taking a moment in the day to relax while listening to the music and let your thoughts drift.
Warmly, Floris”
