Eric Vloeimans & Joanna MacGregor
A sparkling and intimate December evening at SplendorWhen two colorful musical extroverts like Eric Vloeimans and Joanna MacGregor get together, you're guaranteed to be cheered up and enriched. They've known each other for a long time, but their busy schedules have rarely given them the opportunity to play together. Now they're coming to Splendor for a musical experience you won't soon forget.
Eric Vloeimans is the Netherlands' leading trumpeter, mastering his instrument like no other. His work as a composer and performing musician is characterized by melodic and lyrical power, and a distinctive, individual sound that has been described as velvety or whispering in his more subdued pieces. His motto is: ‘I make music for millions, but I haven't reached them all yet’. However, he never panders to the tastes of the general public and always remains true to himself.
Joanna MacGregor is a pianist with an impressive and versatile repertoire: from the classical standard repertoire to contemporary music and jazz. She has performed on every continent with leading orchestras such as the Oslo Philharmonic, London Symphony Orchestra, and Chicago Philharmonic, under conductors such as Pierre Boulez, Sir Colin Davis, Michael Tilson Thomas, and Sir Simon Rattle.
As a conductor, she has led the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Liverpool Philharmonic, Manchester Camerata, and the Hallé Orchestra, among others. Her extensive discography covers a broad spectrum: from Bach and Scarlatti to jazz and John Cage. Joanna is also a highly respected teacher. She is head of the piano department at the Royal Academy of Music in London and artistic director and principal conductor of the Brighton Philharmonic Orchestra. She regularly appears on the BBC and was artistic director of, among others, the Bath International Festival of Music and the Dartington International Summer School & Festival. In short, an ideal musical partner for Eric Vloeimans!
