Within a collective of virtuoso musicians, composer Renske Vrolijk is the proud desk-based artist. From behind her drafting table, she works on sometimes complex compositions, written for her fellow Splendor musicians as well as for ensembles such as the Nederlands Kamerkoor, Philzuid, and Black Pencil. For her very first members’ concert, she transforms Splendor into her office and invites the audience into her studio.
Using photographs, sketches, fragments of text, and score excerpts, she answers that question and demonstrates her working process. You witness the genesis of her compositions: the collision between human impulses and the ticking grid of a tightly structured system. She shares the stories behind the notes and presents exclusive previews.
An intimate evening around the drafting table, offering a rare glimpse into the creation of sound, long before the musicians enter the concert hall.

Splendor can only be the independent and free hub that it is, thanks to the members who support us. We pay them back with our specialty: music. Every year, all Splendor musicians play one concert that's free for this crucial group to whom Splendor owes its everyday existence. Combined with many other events, this means that our members have free entrance to over 50 concerts a year for €9,99 p/m (and €4,99 p/m for minima and students!) – and receive a discount for all other concerts. Pretty good deal, right?
The members enable Splendor to remain independent, which is the only way to secure real freedom in programming, experimentation, risk-taking and the promotion of young, upcoming artists.
