Two towering composers from the Low Countries. Jacob Arcadelt and Cipriano de Rore, masters of polyphony, combined their skills with the highly passionate and often sensual verses of Italian poets from the late medieval era to forge a new musical genre: the Madrigal. During the 16th century, madrigals accompanied every social occasion. The meetings would be filled with poetry and music, voices and instruments.

The Polysemía Ensemble is bringing rarely performed pieces, gathering compositions for 3, 4, and 5 voices. Each one madrigal offers a distinct avenue for exploration, from the playful interplay of three voices to the harmonious solidity of four, and onward to the dynamic complexity of five-part compositions. 'Whilst the music takes centre stage, we combine recitations of the poetry that inspired these compositions, inviting audiences to think around the hidden layers of meaning within each verse.'
